How do artists find exhibition opportunities that truly suit their work – and how can they make an initial approach that sparks interest? Galleries and exhibition venues often receive hundreds of applications. This makes it all the more crucial for artists to present their work, their approach and their artistic impact clearly, independently and in the proper context. At the same time, galleries face the challenge of identifying, from a large number of submissions, those artists whose work is relevant to their programme and has long-term potential for development.

In his talk, curator and cultural strategist Christian Pfaff will discuss his experiences drawn from more than a thousand applications he has received over the past ten years – and outline five key factors that can guide artists in presenting their work. This is not about a formula for success, but rather about fit, precision, artistic approach and the prerequisites for sustainable artistic development.

Gallery directors Lucia Kaufmann, Nina Mielcarczyk and Jonathan Schneider have been invited to take part in the panel discussion on this topic. All three have many years of experience as exhibition organizers and are familiar with application processes and selection procedures from practical experience. The audience is very welcome to contribute questions, experiences and perspectives to the open discussion.
