Panorama XXVII

The doors of the Kunsthaus stay open longer on the first Thursday of every month for the Panorama event series. From 6 pm, the foyer of the institution becomes a stage for a changing music programme conceived by Nguyen Phuong-Dan.

With Emil Saiz, the event features a musician whose pieces unfold patiently and deliberately, appealing to deeper levels of attention. The guitarist, composer and producer is interested in the materiality of sound, introspective states and perceptual experience. His production process is rooted in a sculptural approach to sound: through saturation and feedback, he amplifies and condenses the signal from his instrument, giving form to highly textural meditative compositions that foreground resonance and timbre, activating different modes of listening through beating interference patterns and spectral harmonics. Cycles of Disappearance is his debut LP, released in 2025 by the Swedish tape label Ruby Harvest and recently issued on vinyl by the Madrid-based label Espacio Vacío. Before and after the concert, the artist, musician and DJ Hye-Eun Kim will be showcasing her wide-ranging musical collection. Admission to the current exhibition by Yalda Afsah is free throughout the evening, and cold drinks will be available at the bar.

Thanks to the Panorama format established in 2024, the foyer of the Kunsthaus Hamburg is has developed into an open space for people to come together. The programme emphasises the role of the Kunsthaus as a spatial and discursive hub within the city and at the same time ties in with the early years of the institution, which was founded in 1962 on the initiative of regional artists. In the original building of the Kunsthaus, which was once located at Ferdinandstor, the in-house restaurant Panorama with a view of the Inner Alster Lake offered a place for visitors to rest and socialize. The title Panorama not only refers to the spatial aspect, but also to the width of the visual and auditory field of perception as well as to a diverse spectrum of artistic perspectives.
