Alter-Reservoir & While We're Gone

The exhibitions While We’re Gone by Jakob Spengemann and Akinori Tao, as well as Alter-Reservoir by Sam Vernon, address the loss of workspace faced by many artists and cultural practitioners in Hamburg. At the heart of these works is the theme of relocation, an issue the Kunsthaus itself must also grapple with. Long-overdue renovation work on the building and the expansion of the neighboring concert hall necessitate a move in the near future. Jakob Spengemann, Akinori Tao, and Sam Vernon reflect on this state of limbo, addressing aspects such as temporality, uncertainty, the history of the site, and the transmission of knowledge through images and ephemera.
