As part of Crossing Currents – Hamburg Art Week
Welcome: Anna Nowak (Artistic & Managing Director, Kunsthaus Hamburg, Co-initiator of Hamburg Art Week)

Around 600 artists are members of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Hamburg, and every year a further 100 to 130 graduates complete their studies at the University of Fine Arts. But how do artists manage to gain public recognition? What role do curators, museums, art associations and other institutions play in raising the profile of contemporary art?
In an era of an increasingly digital attention economy, the ways in which art becomes visible are changing. Christian Ganzenberg (Director of Various Others, Munich), Penny Monogiou (artist, Cyprus), Pia Pospischil (graduate of the University of Fine Arts Hamburg) and Rik Reinking (collector) will discuss strategies, challenges and new formats for visibility. In their discussion, they will also explore the potential of Hamburg Art Week to bring art to the fore in the city and beyond.
