To mark the end of From the Cosmos to the Commons, a rich programme will take place at the Stadtpark and Planetarium Hamburg, during which artistic positions will be presented, reflected upon and activated. Following an interactive tour of the exhibition with Joanna Warsza, Uwe Fleckner and José Délano, an artist talk and a performative barbecue invite visitors to participate.
3 pm: Artist talk with Hoda Tawakol & Anna Nowak
For her two installations Cosmic Womb and Goddess in the Stadtpark and the Kunsthaus Hamburg, the artist Hoda Tawakol drew inspiration from the ancient Egyptian goddess Nut. The figure, who swallows the sun at night in order to give birth to it anew each morning, embodied a sacred understanding of the female body that was associated with creation, protection and cosmic order. In conversation with Anna Nowak, the artist will discuss the changing status of femininity and motherhood: from their role as a central element of spiritual and social systems to the reality of care work today.
4 pm: An Antropofagian Grill: Eating Sunflower Fields of Agnes Denes
with José Délano and the project team
The environmental art installation Sunflower Field by Agnes Denes is a public artwork that produces more oxygen than it consumes and, in the artist’s words, serves as a gesture of "seeing reality and still being able to dream." For the finissage, exhibition designer José Délano together with the project team will host a performative barbecue, celebrating the process of collectively eating ripe sunflower heads as a gesture of honoring circularity and perpetual renewal.
