Andere Verhältnisse – An Exhibition of the Association of Visual Artists

The annual exhibition initiated by the Association of Visual Artists (BBK) focusses on the notion of the “concrete utopia”, a term coined by Ernst Bloch (1885–1977). The German philosopher considered utopia to be not just a fantasy far removed from reality but part of the here and now. Art plays a crucial role in his theory: it makes the unfulfilled visible, expresses alternative ideas and can thus initiate processes of change.

The group exhibition Andere Verhältnisse opens up associative spaces for a reshaping of reality and encourages visitors to adopt new perspectives. The 17 selected positions are concerned with topical and pressing questions of social interaction as well as the relationship between humans and their environment. Using a range of artistic media, conventions are called into question and societal visions of the future are explored.
