Hamburg Grants for Visual Arts 2026

Participating artists:
Eda Aslan, Asma Ben Slama, Vedad Divović, Catalina González González, Maik Gräf, Nizan Kasper, Simone Kessler, Kenneth Lin, Lulu MacDonald, Jagrut Raval

The final exhibition of the Hamburg Grants for Visual Arts provides a platform for promising artists every year thus offering an insight into the latest developments of art production in the city. On display will be works created by the ten grantees during their scholarship. They critically engage with established forms of remembrance, global consumption cycles and institutional structures based on media spanning photography, sculpture, performance, video and multimedia installations. Moving between archive and fiction, documentation and speculation, they highlight fractures and gaps in familiar images and narratives.

Since 1981, the Ministry of Culture and Media Hamburg has been awarding visual artists with outstanding, independent artistic positions with the grants. The funding enables them to focus on developing their practice further and realizing new projects. Through the affiliation with the Kunsthaus Hamburg, they receive professional support in their artistic production. The final exhibition enhances their visibility and fosters connections – among the participants, through exchanges with external curators and writers, and in dialogue with the public. Accompanying the exhibition a comprehensive catalogue will be produced in collaboration with Mousse Publishing.
