Talk on the Preservation of Spaces for Culture in Hamburg
with Rolf Kellner (üNN / ZEKULAR), Anna Nowak (Kunsthaus Hamburg) and Andreas Schmidt (Molotow)
Thursday, 11. April 2024, 7 pm

Free admission

Against the backdrop of the pending relocation of the Kunsthaus, the two current exhibitions by Jakob Spengemann, Akinori Tao and Sam Vernon address various aspects of the change of location and the uncertainties that accompany it. In this context, the Kunsthaus invites you to a talk on Thursday, 11 April at 7 pm. The topic of the evening is the preservation of spaces for culture in Hamburg.

In view of the loss of useable space that many art and culture professionals in the city are facing, we will discuss the current situation with actors who are affected. Our guests are the urban researcher Nina Manz (Hallo: e.V. / AG-Ost), Andreas Schmidt, Betreiber des Molotow, sowie der Planer, Projekt- und Stadtentwickler Rolf Kellner (üNN / ZRKULAR).Andreas Schmidt, owner of the Molotow club, and the urban planner and project developer Rolf Kellner. Like the Kunsthaus, the Molotow will have to move out of its premises. It will already be the third relocation for the famous music club. In 2013, it had to give up its space in the Esso buildings due to demolition.

The focus of the talk will once again be on the question of how culture can open up and secure spaces in order to shape the city in a just way, in line with common welfare and beyond profit orientation. What can sustainable organisational forms and structures look like so that this can succeed?

The discussion will be moderated by the journalist Christoph Twickel. Please note that it will be in German language.
Before the event, there will be a guided tour of the current exhibitions with the curator Anna Nowak at 6 pm.
