As part of the exhibition Andere Verhältnisse, Janine Gerber presents her performance Papier Raumkörper at the Kunsthaus Hamburg. She slowly unrolls a heavy sheet of paper (2,20m height, 20m length, 15 kg), which moves and guides her body just as much as she moves the material. Spatial bodies are created that dissolve again the next moment. What remains is an image of the paper’s a beautifully fragmentary vulnerability that allows everything fleeting to flow, live and exist. The surface of the paper paints like a brush stroke. As in painting, decisions are immediate and intuitive. In her work, Gerber addresses the inner world, perception and the thin line to the outer world, the transition from illusionistic image to the real space.

Janine Gerber studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München with Jerry Zeniuk and at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee with Katharina Grosse. In 2018, she received the 1st Possehl Art Prize in Lübeck.
