Jennifer Tee, Star-Crossed collage, 2012

Guided tour with the curator Katja Schroeder

Following at 7 pm
Performance by Jennifer Tee
with Marjolein Vogels (NL) and MiRi Lee (KR)

After the guided tour the installation of Jennifer Tee will be “activated” by two performers with a specially developed choreography. The performance is part of the installation Star-Crossed (2010-2012), in which artist Jennifer Tee deals with various notions of “transformation” and transitional rituals, contrasting with the shapes of her vases made at the Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China. With her choreography, the artist refers to various movement traditions, from modern dance to traditional asien disciplines such as yoga and tai chi, making reference to the titles of the vases. In her performance installation, Jennifer Tee reflects on the ambiguity of a life inbetween different cultures, which can never be completely separated from each other, but rather cross each other. It is an impressive example of Tee’s art practice, bringing together seemingly incompatible cultural backgrounds in a complex work-space constellation.
The performance will be presented once again in the presence of the artist at the finissage on 25 November, 3 pm.
