Sound art is located at the interface of visual art and music, with aesthetic borrowings from both fields. Thus, on the one hand, there are intersections with installative, performative art and, on the other, with experimental, often electronic music, always with the invitation of a polymodal perception of spatiality, temporality and objecthood. Even though this interplay of sound and visuality has a long (art) tradition, sound art is underrepresented in art discourse. In Forum I, it will therefore be given attention. We want to talk to artists, theoreticians and curators about the artistic practices of sound art. What is sound anyway? What is a soundscape, what is a field recording? Does sound have a materiality? How have technological advances influenced the developments and possibilities of sound art, what creative impulses have emerged as a result?
