Finissage
with performance by Raymond Liew Jin Pin & Jascha Viehstädt
Sunday, May 12, 2024, 4–6 pm
Free admission
As part of the finissage, the choreographers and dancers Raymond Liew Jin Pin and Jascha Viehstädt will present a performance they developed for the exhibition Alter-Reservoir by Sam Vernon at the Kunsthaus Hamburg. It deals with their collective and individual body repertoires and the resulting synchronicities and asynchronicities. The performance refers to the collection of objects and documents in Vernon’s installation and their connection to physical space. It examines: Is our body also a place that we can share or take with us?
In the artistic work of Liew and Viehstädt, different perspectives merge into a coherent practice that combines concept, practical exploration and open research. Their collaborative work aims to reduce a broad spectrum of choreographic and physical forms to basic elements. Movement, traditional dance, modern dance styles or even digital approaches thus become part of her concentrated, atmospheric collages.
The performance begins at 5 pm. Previously, at 4 pm, there will be a tour of the two exhibitions Alter-Reservoir by Sam Vernon and While We’re Gone by Jakob Spengemann and Akinori Tao with the curator Anna Nowak.
Raymond Liew Jin Pin and Jascha Viehstädt are an artistic duo based in Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Malaysia. The two choreographers and dancers have been working together since 2017 exploring the themes of culture, gender, space, digitality and code in dance. In 2019, they founded SHD/ Studio Hammer Deich together with Hamburg dance professionals.
