Rest in The Furrows of My Skin

Opening reception: Tuesday, 6 June 2017, 7 pm
Welcoming remarks: Katja Schroeder (Artistic Director)
Introduction: Anna Sabrina Schmid (curator)

Proceeding from the material textures of current representations of bodies, the exhibition Rest in the Furrows of My Skin explores the contemporary state of bodies in neoliberal systems. The materials employed, including paper, textiles, plaster or digital animations, make reference to the permeable, porous nature of bodies, as represented, for instance, by the skin. These attributes also fundamentally apply to the concept of bodies and their boundaries, which are brittle and in a constant state of flux. In the sense of an interface, the represented bodies coalesce in various ways with technical devices, synthetic materials, medicinal products, and other objects of their environment. Categories such as inside and outside, body and environment permeate one another; their boundaries appear porous.
