Yalda Afsah
5.9.–8.11.2026
In an unmistakable visual language, Yalda Afsah’s films document local customs as social spectacles. Her calm, focused gaze – coming from a distance, but always very close to her subjects – not only provides intimate insights into peculiar cultural microcosms, but also shines a spotlight on the individual’s behaviour within larger structures. Her camera reveals seemingly archaic human traits: tenderness, vulnerability and desire, as much as dominance, power and violence. With a keen sense of contradictions and ambivalences, she exposes patriarchal stereotypes and at the same time makes them recognizable as constructs. At the Kunsthaus, she will present a new work dedicated to a traditional fireworks ceremony in Taiwan.
