Opening Whisper Down the Lane &
Panorama XV with Dong Zhou & Isa Schwarzenberg
Thursday, 7 August 2025, 6–10 pm
Music, drinks and free admission at the Kunsthaus Hamburg
Every first Thursday of the month, the Kunsthaus foyer becomes a stage for a changing music program conceived by Nguyen Phuong-Dan. Admission to the exhibition is free from 6 pm and drinks are available at the bar. In August, visitors can look forward to an improvisation concert by composer and performer Dong Zhou. She will present her project Found Violin – a setting consisting of prepared instruments, extended techniques, sound objects, live electronics – and a violin. The latter, however, is not used in its classical function as the central instrument of the concert but as a sound object. Before and after the performance, Isa Schwarzenberg from the Hamburg label Bureau B will perform a listening DJ set.
The opening of the next presentation in the Whisper Down the Lane series will take place as part of the event.
Thanks to the formats established since 2024, the foyer of the Kunsthaus Hamburg is increasingly developing into an open space for people to come together. The programme emphasises the role of the Kunsthaus as a spatial and discursive hub within the city and at the same time ties in with the early years of the institution, which was founded in 1962 on the initiative of regional artists. In the original building of the Kunsthaus, which was once located at Ferdinandstor, the in-house restaurant Panorama with a view of the Inner Alster Lake offered a place for visitors to rest and socialize. The title Panorama not only refers to the spatial aspect, but also to the width of the visual and auditory field of perception as well as to a diverse spectrum of artistic perspectives.
