Her calm, focused gaze &ndash; coming from a distance, but always very close to her subjects &ndash; not only provides intimate insights into peculiar cultural microcosms, but also shines a spotlight on the individual&rsquo;s behaviour within larger structures. Her camera reveals seemingly archaic human traits: tenderness, vulnerability and desire, as much as dominance, power and violence. With a keen sense of contradictions and ambivalences, she exposes patriarchal stereotypes and at the same time makes them recognizable as constructs.
